Pari murder case in Odisha: SIT arrests one person

Bhubaneswar: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Odisha Crime Branch arrested one person in connection with the Pari kidnap and murder case in Nayagarh. The accused will be produced before the POCSO Court tomorrow.

Official sources said the accused is a resident of Jadupur village under Nayagarh Sadar police limits.

A case has been registered under Section 364, 302, 376 (AB), 376 (A) and 201 of IPC read with Section 6 of POCSO Act.

The investigation into the case is on, the official sources added.

However, the investigation team did not provide the details of the person arrested in connection with the minor girl murder case. Official sources said lie detection test of the concerned person had been carried out.

Worth mentioning, few days back, the SIT picked up one Saroj Sethy, a college student, from Jadupur village along with two of his family members from the village for questioning. The investigating team released Saroj’s mother and sister yesterday.

In its probe status report, the SIT informed the Orissa High Court that the minor girl was sexually assaulted before being brutally killed. The High Court fixed the next hearing of the murder case on December 24.

The minor went missing while playing near her house on July 13. Her skeletal remains stacked in a gunny bag was found in the backside of her house on July 23. The incident came to fore after girl’s parents attempted self-immolation in front of the State Legislative Assembly in Bhubaneswar on November 24.

Meanwhile, the Opposition upped its ante against the State government over the alleged kidnap and murder of the minor girl. Today, the State unit of BJP kickstarted a five-day long padayatra from Bhubaneswar to Nayagarh demanding justice for the bereaved family.

Odisha Congress leaders also met the girl’s family members few days back and expressed displeasure over the alleged tardy progress of the SIT probe.
