Pari murder: Odisha HC pulls up SIT over tardy progress of probe

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today expressed displeasure over the tardy progress of a probe by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the Pari murder case.

The division bench of Chief Justice Mohammad Rafiq and Justice BR Sarangi said the status report submitted by the SIT does not reveal any substantial progress in the investigation into the Pari murder case to apprehend the real culprit.

Also, the court fixed the next of hearing in the case on December 24, 2020. It asked the SIT to submit further progress report during the next hearing.

On December 3, the High Court asked the SIT formed by the State government to take effective and expeditious steps to identify and arrested the accused in the kidnapping and murder of five-year-old girl.

In its probe status report submitted before the court yesterday, the SIT reportedly stated the girl was raped before being killed. The SIT report stated the involvement of residents of the minor’s native village in the crime, sources added.
