Pari murder: SC accepts petition of deceased’s mother seeking CBI probe

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today accepted a petition filed by Soudamini Sahoo, the mother of Pari, who was murdered in July last year, seeking a CBI probe into the death case.

A single-judge bench comprising Justice A.M. Khanwilkar heard the petition and issued notices to CBI and the Odisha government. Senior Advocates Mahesh Jethmalani and Ravi Sharma argued in the apex court on behalf of the five-year-old girl’s mother.

In her writ petition, Soudamini requested the apex court to direct the central investigating agency to probe Pari’s murder. The write petition was filed in the SC under Article 32 of the Constitution.

In her plea, the minor girl’s mother stated as the murder case raised questions on the role of local police, the case must be investigated by an impartial central agency like CBI.

Yesterday, the Orissa High Court expressed satisfaction over the progress of a probe carried out by the Special Investigation Team of Odisha Crime Branch into the Pari murder case.
