Parivartan’18: Xavier School of Sustainability to organise annual business conclave in Odisha capital
Bhubaneswar: Xavier School of Sustainability (XSoS), will be hosting its annual business conclave, Parivartan, on Aug 31, with the aim of facilitating greater interaction between students, academia and the industry. The conclave intends to induce the students of sustainability management to deliberate over the theme for the event, which is, “Sustainability: Investment or Financial Liability?”
The conclave will be attended by industry veterans who will be addressing this issue and sharing their perspectives with the students. The speakers include Anita Rajan (Chief Operating Officer, Tata STRIVE), Indra Guha (Partner, Sustainability and Climate Change, Thinkthrough Consulting Pvt. Ltd), Nimai Lila Das (Chief Sustainability Officer, Govardhan Ecovillage), Sandeep Roy Choudhury (Co-Founder, VNV Advisory Services).
Sustainable investing enables individuals to select investments based on values and personal priorities. Initially, sustainable investing negatively screened companies and industries, which often led investors to sacrifice returns for value-aligned investment choices. In recent years, however, investors have used positive screening of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) risk factors to create a modern ‘best-in-class’ investment approach that generates performance that is in line with — and often exceeds — market benchmarks.
This shift toward market outperformance in several sustainable investing products has contributed to the increase in demand for these products as fiduciaries look to serve their clients by not only generating returns, but also assessing impact. Providing sustainable investing opportunities enables firms to not only capture financial returns for clients, but also to realize intrinsic returns not replicated elsewhere.
Xavier University Bhubaneswar (XUB), organises a plethora of conclaves to aid the students’ learning experience. Parivartan is one such business conclave aimed at providing an interactive session about the various sustainable investing opportunities and this is its fifth edition.
