Parking fee in Odisha capital to increase during peak hours

Bhubaneswar: Vehicle users will now have to shell out more money towards parking fee in Odisha capital during peak hours as the civic body is all set to issue an order in this regard soon, sources said.

Higher parking fee on hourly basis will be charged from 9 am to 11 am and 4 pm to 7 pm in the city.

As per an official of the BMC, a survey was conducted for improvement of parking facility in the city. On the basis of the survey report, it was decided to adopt Smart Parking system, under which more parking fee will be collected from the denizens during the above mentioned peak hours.

The aim of the move is to encourage people to use public transportation instead of private vehicles, ensure smooth movement of traffic on city roads, and reduce air pollution.

The new parking system is likely to be implemented in the next 2-3 months.

As per the existing parking fee tariff, two wheeler owners are paying Rs 5 for upto 0-2 hours, Rs 15 for 2-3 hours, Rs 25 for 3-4 hours, and Rs 35 for 4-5 hours.

Similarly, for auto-rickshaw, four wheeler (light) and four wheeler (heavy) vehicles, the parking charges are Rs 5, Rs 20 and Rs 25 for parking for 2 hours, Rs 20, Rs 40 and Rs 50 for 2-3 hours, Rs 35, Rs 60 and Rs 75 for 3-4 hours and Rs 50, Rs 80 and Rs 100 for 4-5 hours. respectively.
