Passenger held with over Rs 28 lakh cash at Puri Railway Station

Puri: The Railway Protection Force, Puri, seized cash over Rs 28 lakh from a passenger at Puri Railway Station on Friday.

The passenger has been identified as Uday Kumar from Visakhapatnam. He was scheduled to board a train from Puri to Visakhapatnam.

The RPF personnel found around Rs 28,85,500 from the luggage of Uday Kumar during routine checking at Puri Railway Station ahead of Ratha Jatra festival.

“The passenger was caught with Rs 28,85,500 during scanning of luggage at the railway station at around 3.15 pm on Friday. He has been detained for questioning in connection with the huge cash seizure,” a source in the RPF said.

According to preliminary investigation, the youth was possessing the huge cash following a land deal. He had travelled to Puri and was scheduled to return to his home town with his relative after a short stay in the pilgrim town.

The investigation is underway to check the claims made by the passenger over possession of the amount.
