Passengers stranded after tree falls on railway track in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj
Official sources said a rescue van from Kharagur will reach in four-five hours.
Baripada: Passengers had a harrowing time with a MEMU train getting detained in a jungle after a sal tree fell on the tracks at Betnoti in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha here today.
As per reports, a huge sal tree got uprooted and fell on the tracks, snapping cable wires just 200 metre away from Betnoti railway station. Consequently, the train which was scheduled to ply towards Bangiriposi on that route, got stuck at Krushnachandrapur jungle.
Passengers, including government officials, teachers and students commuting on that train got stranded. Sources said many of them were seen walking towards Kashipur and reached NH16 to seek shelter after a long wait.
Meanwhile, railway officials along with electrical engineer and other Power personnel reached the spot to start repair work. Police along with fire services too arrived to start rescue operations and clear the tracks.
