‘Patho unit’ to be set up in Odisha’s Nandankanan zoo

Bhubaneswar: In the wake of recent elephant deaths due to herpes virus in Nandankanan Zoological Park, authorities of the zoo have decided to open a ’patho unit’ in the zoo premises.

After a review meeting, director of the zoo Shashi Paul said the unit comprising a veterinary doctor and two technicians will initially examine animals and birds of the zoo. If anything serious is found during preliminary examination of animals and birds at the ‘Patho Unit’, they will be sent OUAT for further treatment.
