Patient administered expired injection in Malkangiri hospital

Malkangiri: Tension ran high at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at MV-19 village in Malkangiri district after a patient was allegedly administered an expired injection by the hospital staff last night.

However, the patient identified as Gopal Mandal (50) was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) after his condition worsened following the expired injection.

Sources said Gopal was admitted to the hospital after suffering from brain malaria. Since the injection prescribed by the doctors was not available in the hospital, the family members of the patient bought the injection from a private medicine store near the hospital.

Without checking its expiry date, the hospital staff administered the injection on Gopal, following which his health condition deteriorated. He was later shifted to the Malkangiri DHH.

When asked, the hospital authority said an inquiry will be made into the incident.
