Patients scared at AIIMS Bhubaneswar as concrete chunk falls off ceiling

Bhubaneswar: The safety of AIIMS Bhubaneswar structure drew a big question after a portion of concrete chunk fell off outdoor ceiling at ticket counter on premises of the hospital here yesterday.

Although, no causality was reported in the incident, the patients and relatives standing in queue for token at ticket counter were panicked this morning.

This was the second incident reported just a day after the wall of Casualty Trauma Care Unit of the medical institution caved in on Thursday.

According to reports, a large portion of the roof ceiling suddenly fell on an empty space of the floor when the relatives of the patients were waiting in a long beeline to collect token at the ticket counter on Friday morning. Fortunately, nobody was standing at the site during the incident.

However, the panicked patients and visitors started running out of the counter following the incident.

The senior officials and director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar rushed to the spot to review the situation.

Following assessment, the technicians said that the portion of roof ceiling was affected as the knot bolt of that portion fell down.

The situation was restored and visitors again stood in queue following assurance from the AIIMS authorities.

Clarifying about the incident, the authorities denied crack in the ceiling.

“The pillars of the building remain unaffected. Only minor cracks were found on the wall, but not in the ceiling. However, the crack on wall reported on Thursday has no link with yesterday’s incident,” the AIIMS said in a press meet here today.
