Pausha Purnima today; Devotees throng Puri Srimandir to witness Suna Besha

Puri: Devotees thronged Srimandir in Puri to witness Suna Besha (golden attire) of deities on the occasion of holy Pausha Purnima today.

Special arrangements have been made for conducting Pushyabhishekh rituals of deities at the Jagannath Temple on the occasion of full moon day that falls on Pausha month of Hindu almanac.

On the holy day, Lord Jagannath and His siblings are adorned with gold ornaments. The Besha is called Rajarajeswar Besha. The devotees wait for the occasion after holy Kartik Purnima to see the deities in golden attire.

Worth mentioning, Suna Besha is observed five times in a year. The rituals for decorating the Lords and Goddess Subhadra take place on Magha Purnima, Ashadha Ekadashi, Vijaya Dashami, Kartik Purnima and Pausha Purnima. While the deties appear in golden attire on chariots during Bahuda Jatra, Suna Besha is observed four times inside temple.
