Pausha Putrada Ekadashi 2023 Date, Tithi, Time to Break Fast/Upvas

Pausha Putrada Ekadashi is observed by devotees of Lord Vishnu on the ‘ekadashi’ during the Shukla Paksha of the month of ‘Pausha’ in the traditional Hindu calendar.

The word ‘Putrada’ means ‘giver of sons’ and as this ekadashi falls during the Hindu month of ‘Pausha’ it is known as ‘Pausha Putrada Ekadashi’.

This ekadashi is mainly observed by couples who desire to be blessed with a son.

Ekadashi Tithi Begins: January 01, 2023 7:12 PM.

Ekadashi Tithi Ends: January 02, 2023 8:23 PM

Parana Time (Fast Breaking Time): January 03, 7:12 AM – January 03, 9:20 AM.

Rituals: On this day, Lord Vishnu is worshipped by couples to be blessed with baby boy. Couples also worship the deity for the well-being of their children.

Fast is also observed by devotees on this day. Both wife and husband should observe the Pausha Putrada Ekadashi vrat. If one cannot keep a complete fast, partial fasting is allowed.

Couples should avoid sleeping and keep a ‘jagaran’ by singing bhajans of Lord Vishnu.

Reciting ‘Vishnu Sahasranamam’ and other Vedic mantras is also believed to be auspicious on this day.

The devotees also visit temples of Lord Vishnu on this day.
