Peon of drug inspector’s office caught taking bribe in Odisha

Jajpur: A peon of Jajpur Drug Inspector’s office was caught red-handed by Vigilance officials while he was accepting bribe of Rs 3,000 from a medicine store owner today.

As per sources accused Raghunath Panda had demanded the bribe from Santosh Kumar Sahu, the owner of a medicine store in Balichandrapur police station area, for necessary inspection for renewal of drug license. The accused had already received Rs 18,000 from the complainant and was demanding Rs 3,000 more for the purpose.

With no option left, the complainant informed Vigilance DSP Anushaya Senapati about the matter seeking help. Following this, a trap was laid and Raghunath was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe at the office of the Drug Inspector.

The anti-graft officials also raided the house of Raghunath’s relative at Bishnupur under Dhamnagar police limits in Bhadrak district.

COVID-19 test of the accused will be conducted and he will be produced before court after that, said the Vigilance DSP.
