People attack policemen in COVID-19 containment zone in Odisha’s Rourkela

Rourkela: In a time frontline warriors braving all odds to fight COVID-19 across the state, tension gripped a containment zone in Rourkela after people allegedly attacked the police personnel creating nuisance during the pandemic.

Source said that a few locals pelted stones at police personnel deployed at Mahatab Road in Nala Road, which has been declared as containment zone following a few COVID-19 cases were reported from the place.

Also, people allegedly damaged the barricades cordoned around the containment zone.

However, the cause behind the incident is yet obscure.

Following the incident, additional police forces were sent to the site to disperse crowd and maintain law and order.

Worth mentioning, Sundargarh district falls under Orange zone category as per the Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines. The district administration has declared Nala Road as the containment zone that reports six COVID-19 cases so far. As per the norms, the restrictions are in force to contain spread of COVID-19 infections at the locality.
