People cheated of Rs 1 crore by cyber fraudsters in Odisha in April

Bhuabaneswar: The Commissionerate Police today informed that a whopping Rs 1.19 crore has been cheated from people by cyber fraudsters in the state in the month of April.

Sharing the details, the CP said cyber fraudster have duped people of Rs 1,19,63,297 in April. The fraud amount includes Rs 74,05,114 from Bhubaneswar. However, the  cyber police have recovered Rs 5,36,140 so far.

Total 476 cyber calls  were received in April, 220 from Bhubaneswar and 256 from other parts of the state.  Of the total cases, 156  were related to UPI fraud and 80 were credit and debit card fraud, said the police.

In view of the rise in cyber crimes, Bhubaneswar DCP has cautioned the citizens not to share their personal information like  bank account number, OTP, Adhaar number and DOB with anyone.

“As shops and commercial establishments are functioning for limited time during the lockdown, people will rely more one e-commerce transaction. And cyber fraudsters may attempt to take advantage of this during the period. Hence, everyone should remain careful and not share their personal details with anyone,” said DCP Umashankar Dash.
