Permanent HC bench demand: Western Odisha lawyers launch cease work

Sambalpur: The Western Odisha Lawyers’ Association resorted to a six-day cease work agitation starting from today till February 24 demanding a permanent Orissa High Court bench in the region.

Courts, banks, offices of Central and State governments in western Odisha will remain closed during the period, reports said, adding that schools, colleges, business establishments and health services have been excluded from the ambit of the agitation.

Members of the association today staged a dharna in front of the court at Sambalpur Kacheri Road.

The Rourkela Bar Association has also passed an unanimous resolution to boycott the court proceedings till February 24 demanding fulfillment of seven-point charter of demands including establishment of a permanent bench of the High Court in Rourkela.
