Bhubaneswar, July 22:
With the Centre delaying granting permission for international flight operations to begin from Biju Patnaik International Airport here, Odisha chief secretary JK Mohapatra has urged the Civil Aviation Ministry to accord permission to Fly Dubai to start operations from the airport.
“I would request to you to reconsider inclusion of Bhubaneswar as a point of call in the Bilateral Air Services Agreement and grant permission to Fly Dubai to start operations from Bhubaneswar,” said Mohapatra in a letter to Civil Aviation secretary Ashok Lavasa recently.
The letter came after the Ministry denied receiving any letter from Fly Dubai for international flight operations from the airport. The Odisha government has forwarded another letter of the flight operator to the Ministry.
Fly Dubai will operate a daily Boeing 737-800 flight with 174 seats - 12 business class and 162 economy class seats.
Fly Dubai and Air Asia have given their schedules for operating international flights from Bhubaneswar, official sources said. Fly Dubai would operate from Bhubaneswar to Dubai and Air Asia from Bhubaneswar to Kuala Lumpur.
It is to be noted that the government had requested the city airport authority to expedite the process of approval of international flight schedules in February this year.
