PET under Odisha Vigilance scanner

Berhampur: Vigilance officials today raided houses and properties of Physical Education Teacher (PET) Danardan Sahu of Sri Dibyasimha Bidyapitha at Jayantipur under Jarada police station in Ganjam district on charges of acquisition and possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

On the strength of search warrants issued by Special Vigilance Judge, Berhampur, separate teams of the anti-graft wing led by four DSPs and 12 Inspectors conducted simultaneous searches at 13 places associated with the PET.

During the raid, the Vigilance sleuths searched a residential triple storyed building at Ananta Nagar, first lane extension and a double storyed building at Ananta Nagar, third lane in Berhampur, a double storyed building at Jayantipur village, a single storyed building at Jayantipur village, a double storyed Post Office building in his name located at Jayantipur, four shop rooms in his name at Jayantipur village bus stand, an Indian Oil petrol pump in his son’s name at Jayantipur village, a market complex at Balarampur village, a godown at Jayantipur village, a gas agency in his friend’s name at Jayantipur village, a residential house of his friend at Talamuha Sahi at  Jayantipur village and two residential houses of his cousins at Jayantipur village.

The search operation is still underway.

So far, Vigilance has unearthed Rs 3.85 lakh cash,  gold jewellery weighing about 721 grams, a triple storeyed building and a double storeyed building at Anantanagar in Berhampur, a double storeyed building, a single storeyed building, four shops and a double storeyed building at Jayantipur in Ganjam, a market complex at Balrampur in Ganjam and a godown at Jayantipur in Ganjam with storage of 200 jaggery packets and 500 sugar packets (50 Kg each) suspected to be raw material for liquor manufacture. Besides, two four-wheelers worth over Rs.16 lakhs. and  two two-wheelers were detected.

“Sahu’s role in manufacture and sale of liquor is also being verified. The exact amount of disproportionate assets that the Government teacher has possessed will be ascertained after completion of raid,” said an official.
