Petrol pump blast in Odisha Capital: Commissionerate Police registers case suo motu

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police today launched an investigation into the petrol pump blast incident in Bhubaneswar after registering a criminal case suo motu.

Twin City Police Commissioner Sudhansu Sarangi said the blast in a LPG tank at the petrol pump near Raj Bhavan caused severe damage and fire broke out thereafter.

At least eight people have been injured in the incident which occurred at 1:12 pm. Of the injured, two persons were in critical condition and admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

The intensity of the explosion was so much that the area was jolted for few minutes.

The Police Commissioner further said discussions were held with IOCL officials on transferring the remaining gas from the LPG tank at the fuel refilling station. A special vehicle with pumps has already left from Balasore to reach the fuel refilling station to empty the damaged LPG tank, he added.

Locals have been advised to remain cautious until the LPG tank and fuel tanks at the petrol pump were transferred to other tanks, the Police Commissioner said.
