Pickup van overturn: CM announces ex-gratia of Rs 3 Lakh to each deceased’s next of kin

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh each to the two deceased’s next of kin, who died on the spot as a pickup van in which they were travelling overturned near Dokaripada village under Golamunda block and this police limits in Kalahandi district.

The Chief Minister conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families. The CM ordered for adequate medical treatment of the injured ones and also wished their early recovery.

In the tragic road mishap that took place earlier in the evening, as many as two persons were killed, and 38 more sustained severe injuries.

Identities of the deceased and injured persons have not been ascertained yet, a senior cop said.

According to a source, around 45 farm labourers were returning home when the mishap occurred.

Locals rescued the injured passengers and immediately admitted them to two government-run health facilities in Dharmagarh and Junagarh in serious condition for treatment.

Later, some of them were shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Bhawanipatna after their conditions deteriorated.

Meanwhile, three injured are being sent to VIMSAR in Burla for critical care.
