Picnic turns sour as Odisha teacher drowns in Mahanadi while saving student

Nayagarh: Tragedy struck a picnic as a teacher drowned in Mahanadi river while saving a student at Kantilo under Khandapada block of Odisha’s Nayagarh district, today.

The deceased was identified as Saroj Dash (32). He was working as a teacher with a private educational institution in Mahakalapada area of Kendrapara district.

According to reports, students and teachers of the institution had come to Kantilo for a picnic. While some students were bating in the river, one of them went into deep water.

In a bid to save the student, Saroj went into the water body. Unfortunately, he drowned while doing so.

Locals rescued the teacher and rushed him to the Khandapada Community Health Centre, where he was declared dead.
