Cuttack, Sep 28:

The Justice PK Mohanty Commission of Inquiry probing into the sensational Pipili gang-rape and murder case is likely to summon chief minister Naveen Patnaik, who is in charge of the Home portfolio.

The decision of the Commission came on Friday after the petitioner’s advocate Nishikant Mishra made an appeal to reject the affidavit filed by the government counsel.

Earlier in an affidavit, Mishra had contended that the Home minister needs to file an affidavit before the Commission as a number of senior government officials including the home secretary and the DGP, have already filed their affidavits giving details of the action taken by the government over the incident.

“The Commission will take a decision on our petition on October 26,” informed Mishra.

Appearing on behalf of the family members of the victim, Mishra urged the Commission to bring the Home minister into the purview of the probe as the government had defended Pipili BJD MLA Pradeep Maharathy saying the MLA was unaware of the matter.

The Commission summoned former Superintendent of SCB Medical College and Hospital Dr DN Moharana, former Casualty medical officer of the hospital Dr PK Pradhan to record their statements. (MM)
