Plaint filed against Disney+ Hotstar, filmmakers for hurting religious sentiments of Odias

Jajpur: Popular OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar landed in trouble for streaming a short film titled ‘Miyan Biwi Aur Banana’ that allegedly hurts religious sentiments of people of Odisha.

A complaint in this regard has been filed against Disney+ Hotstar, Director Nina Srivastava, Producer Karan Murarka and production house KARA Studios at Jajpur Road Model Police Station in Jajpur district.

As per the complainant, there are some dialogues in the short film insulting Lord Jagannath and Goddess Narayani.

“In the short film titled ‘Miyan Biwi Aur Banana’, there is a mosquito named ‘Jagannath’ and it dies with a drop of sweat of a man. A woman, who is narrating the story, introduced herself saying ‘I am Narayani, widow of Jagannath’,” alleged the complainant Debiprasad Dash, a Junior Lecturer at Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Vyas Nagar, Jajpur.

“Lord Jagannath is the Lord of Universe and resides in hearts of every Odia. He is the identity of Odisha and Odias. I am deeply hurt over the content streamed on the global OTT platform for which I filed a complaint at the citizen portal. I will move the court against the derogatory content,” he added.
