Bhubaneswar: After Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri and Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar, the Sun Temple in Odisha’s Konark and its nearby areas are all set to undergo major beautification as a draft plan in this regard was today approved at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The CM has directed to make the infrastructural development of the heritage site world-class. The project will be carried out in Konark under the 5T initiative of the state government.

Under the project, the 3.5 km-long ring road around the temple will be made six-laned. All roads connecting to the temple will be developed while dedicated points will be created between Bhubaneswar and Konark for convenient transportation of visitors. Rehabilitation of local vendors is also a part of the project.

The 30 acres of area facing the temple will be kept open while landscaping will be done on the same. An entry plaza will be constructed at the entrance to welcome the tourists. This apart, a multi modal hub will be created for parking of vehicles.

The Konark Open Air Theatre will be renovated under the project. Also, a special stretch of road will be constructed for pedestrians. Citizens can send their suggestions regarding the draft plan at [email protected] within 21 days.
