Bhubaneswar: Ravenshaw University in Odisha’s Cuttack city will set up a museum to preserve its glorious past for the posterity.
The museum will have details regarding the history of the premier educational institute, old documents, rare photos, information regarding the visits of eminent personalities to the varsity and various incidents that took place at the institute during the freedom struggle.
A decision regarding the setting up of the museum was taken at a recent meeting of Ravenshaw University Development Trust, sources said.
The meeting was chaired by trust chairman Satyakam Mishra. Vice-Chancellor Sanjay Nayak, Registrar Kanhucharan Mallick, trust secretary Padan Kumar Jena, leading Odia daily Sambad’s Editor Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, educationalist Pravat Kumar Mishra, Professor Jatindra Kumar Nayak, former Director General of Police (DGP) Amiya Bhushan Tripathy, former Advocate General Surya Mishra, former Secretary of Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) Ashok Kumar Dash and retired IAS officer Sanjeev Kumar Hota were present at the meeting.
The meeting also held discussions regarding the preservation of books and documents at Kanika Library of Ravenshaw. The varsity authorities have sanctioned additional funds to the tune of Rs 25 lakh for the development of the library, sources said.
The meeting put emphasis on completion of various developmental projects at the varsity ahead of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) team’s visit in October this year.
Notably, Ravenshaw University, formerly known as Ravenshaw College, was founded during the British rule in India in 1868. The college got autonomous status in the 1990s and it was upgraded to a unitary university in 2006.
