‘Plastic egg’ scare grips Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri: Allegation of plastic eggs being sold in Odisha’s Malkangiri district has come to fore leaving residents of the region concerned regarding its consumption.

According to reports, one Digambar Behera of Hi-Tech colony here bought four eggs from a local shop, out of which three were found containing plastic.

Yolks of the eggs were elastic in nature, Behera alleged, adding that shapes of the eggs were round instead of being oval. On being asked about it, the concerned shopkeeper said he had purchased the eggs from a wholesaler.

Locals have expressed concern over the availability of such eggs in the market as eggs are also being provided to students in government schools and anganwadi centres in the district.

Till filing of the report, district administration officials were yet to comment on the matter.
