Plea of child’s rapist against life term dismissed

New Delhi, July 17 :

The Delhi High Court Thursday, relying on the statement of a minor girl, dismissed an appeal by a man who was sentenced to life in prison for raping her.

Upholding the life term sentence of Om Prakash by a trial court in 2011, a division bench of Justice P.K. Bhasin and J.R. Midha dismissed the appeal, saying there was nothing that could make the five-year-old victim’s statement doubtful.

In the judgment, the court said: “Evidence of all the witnesses remained unshattered in their cross-examination and all of them render full credence to the prosecution case.”

As per the prosecution, Om Prakash had taken the girl from outside her house when she was playing with her brother June 6, 2009, to a field where he raped her.

When her mother started searching for her, the girl’s brother told his mother that Om Prakash, who was their neighbour, has taken her to a field.

Om Prakash was apprehended by the people of the locality and handed over to the police.
