Plea in Odisha HC seeks action against servitors for not wearing masks during Snana Jatra

Cuttack: Amid rising number of COVID-19 cases in Odisha, a public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the Orissa High Court today seeking action against Daitapati servitors and Mudirasta sevak for not wearing masks and maintaining social distance during Snana Jatra.

In his petition, Advocate Dilip Kumar Ray accused the servitors and Mudirasta sevak of violating the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the government during the Snana Jatra held on June 5. Not wearing mask and maintaining social distance in this pandemic are violations of law and action should be taken against the violators, the petitioner said in the petition.

The petitioner in the PIL further said the social distance norm is likely to be violated in the ensuing Ratha Jatra and sought the HC’s intervention to issue a guideline.

He mentioned in the PIL that the chariots can be pulled with the help of machines during the Ratha Jatra without exploring any other options to ensure social distancing.
