Plus 3 girl student ‘raped’ by lecturer in Odisha capital; probe on

Bhubaneswar: A Plus 3 girl student of Jayadev College of Education and Technology at Naharkanta here was allegedly raped by a lecturer of the institute. It is also alleged that she was  sexually harassed by the accused lecturer for months.

The matter came to fore after Higher Education Department directed the college Principal to conduct a thorough probe into the incident and submit a report forthwith. However, no complaint has been lodged with police in this connection yet.

As per the girl’s complaint, lecturer Pramod Ranjan Dash, who also serves as NCC Officer (Naval Wing), had been torturing her both mentally and physically for the last few months. At first, the accused proposed the girl and when she refused, the lecturer forced her to keep physical relationship with him.

When the situation became intolerable, the girl sought intervention of college authorities in this regard. In stead of taking help of police, the college authorities formed an Internal Complaints Committee for an inquiry. After grilling both the complainant and the accused, the committee submitted a report to College Management Council Head, who happens to be Khordha Sub-Collector.

It is alleged that the college conducted the internal probe to suppress the incident.
