Plus II girl student hit, dragged by speeding car in Odisha’s Bhadrak, dies in hospital

Tihidi: A minor girl was critically injured after being hit by a speeding car in Nandapur Bazaar area of Achak panchayat under Tihidi police limits in Bhadrak district, today forenoon. She was dragged by the car up to a long distance, and as a result, she sustained grievous injuries in the incident.

However, the victim girl died while undergoing treatment in hospital following the road mishap.

The deceased was identified as Prabhasini Nayak, a Plus II student in a local women’s college in Talapada locality of the district.

According to a source, the road mishap occurred when the girl was on her way to her college. She was hit by the car on Bhadrak-Chandbali state highway at around 11.00 am near Nandapur Chhak.

The girl got entangled in the bonnet of the car and was dragged. Allegedly, driver of the vehicle was in an inebriated condition when driving. The car driver could not flee from the spot and a number of locals overpowered him. He was also thrashed by the incensed residents.

Irate locals damaged the car and handed the driver over to Tihidi police. The locals staged a roadblock in protest by burning tyres on the road. Vehicular movement was completely disrupted for a few hours.

The injured was rescued and immediately admitted to the hospital in Tihidi for treatment, but she later succumbed to injuries. On being informed, Tihidi police reached the spot and launched a probe.

Police have seized Prabhasini’s body and sent it for post-mortem and a report is awaited.
