Plus Two meritorious students to get free laptop by December in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government will distribute free laptops to meritorious students successfully cleared annual Plus Two examinations in various streams by December this year, an official source said here today.

Total 15,000 meritorious students in 12th standard examination will get free laptop under Biju Yuva Sashaktikaran Yojana, a youth empowerment initiative launched by the state government.

The list of the students will be released in July.

As per the revised guidelines of Biju Yuva Sashaktikaran Yojana, the students’ relatives can also receive the laptops in case of their absence during the programme. They can inform the authorities about the reason of their absence through a letter signed by the chairman of the concerned colleges. It is mandatory to submit the identity documents of the relative, who will receive the laptop.

A committee headed by the district collector will be constituted to monitor the distribution process of laptops within the scheduled period of time.

The government has set up 30 nodal centres for distribution of the laptops to the students.

The laptops will be sent by IT department to the nodal centres. The list of meritorious students will be out in July. The students can lodge complaint with the college authorities if they will have any issue regarding the list. The students can be added to the supplementary list if the queries proved to be true, official source said.

The free laptops will be distributed by December 31, 2018. A supplementary list of students including the students who will not have received the laptop will be released after December. The students in the supplementary list will be distributed the laptop by January 31, 2019, wrote the Higher Education department to 822 degree and 29 autonomous colleges in a letter.

Sources in the Higher Education department said that the officer at the nodal centre will verify the certificates of the students before the distribution of laptops. The college authorities will have to approve the certificates along with furnishing the college identity cards and admit card provided by the Council of Higher Secondary Education.
