PM, CM praise Balasore residents for generosity in helping Odisha train mishap victims

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today praised the residents of Balasore district for their generosity in helping the victims of a major train accident in Odisha.

As many as 288 passengers were killed and more than 1,000 others sustained injuries in the mishap involving three trains near Bahanaga railway station in Balasore district yesterday.

“I am grateful to the locals of Balasore who came forward to assist in the rescue operation and donate blood for the injured passengers,” said the Prime Minister after visiting the accident site today.

The Chief Minister too praised the locals of Balasore for their effort in the rescue operation.

“I am proud of the people of Odisha particularly of Balasore for their tremendous effort in the rescue operation in the aftermath of this terrible train accident. I am also thankful the youths of Balasore for their generosity in donating blood for the injured passengers. This is how people should behave at the time of a crisis,” said the Chief Minister who visited the accident site in the early morning today.

Notably, hundreds of youths in Balasore came forward to donate blood for the accident victims.

As news of the accident spread, the youths lined up throughout the night at Balasore district headquarters hospitals and other health facilities to donate blood, sources said.
