PM Modi, CM greet people of Odisha on Utkala Dibasa

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today greeted people of Odisha on the auspicious occasion of Utkala Dibasa.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote in Odia to extend his wishes for Odisha people on the special occasion.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik exhorted his State’s people to continue to strengthen their efforts for the prosperity of Odisha.

Odisha is celebrating its 87th Foundation Day on Friday to commemorate the formation of the State as a separate statehood with addition of Koraput and Ganjam from Madras Presidency on April 1, 1936.

Utkala Dibasa is celebrated on April 1 every year to remember the formation of Odisha as an Independent State. It is the first State to have been formed on a linguistic basis.

Under the British Government, Odisha was a part of Bengal Presidency, which consisted of Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha.
