PM Modi praises two hockey players from Odisha for their game in Tokyo Olympics

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Heaping praises on two hockey players from Odisha who were part of the Indian team at the Tokyo Olympics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said their game is a delight to watch.

Modi commended Birendra Lakra, who hails from Lachchada in the Sundargarh district, for his game. In a tweet, the Prime Minister stated, “Birendra Lakra’s defence is unbreachable. His game is a delight to watch! At every step he demonstrated his experience in the game and helped the team win. We are proud of him!”

In another tweet, the Prime Minister praised Amit Rohidas from Saunamara village of Sundergarh district for his performance and saving penalty corners in the Tokyo Olympics Bronze medal match against Germany. Modi wrote, “Your fearless energy on the field was commendable, Amit Rohidas. You were truly a rock-wall intercepting those penalty corners. Congratulations on your performance, India realises its long-awaited Olympic dream with you!”

The dreams of billions of hockey fans came true when India bagged a historic bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics, beating Germany 5-4 in an edge-of-the-seat thriller today.

The Prime Minister tweeted about other hockey players of the Indian team as well and praised their performances.
