PM Modi to visit Odisha today to meet train accident victims

Bhubaneswar: Hours after the major train accident in Odisha that claimed over 200 lives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit the train mishap site to enquire for details.

Sources said that PM Modi will arrive at Bhubaneswar airport at 2.30 pm and fly straight to the accident site in Balasore district in a chopper. Later, he will meet victims, who were injured in the tragic train mishap, at the SCB Hospital in Cuttack.

Earlier in the morning, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik visited the spot to take stock of situation.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also cut short his visit to Kolkata and left for Balasore to meet the accident victims.

Meanwhile, three Tamil Nadu ministers left for Odisha’s Balasore to review the situation.

As many as 238 passengers were killed in the train mishap involving two express trains — Bengaluru-Howrah Express and Shalimar-Chennai Coromondel Express and a goods train at Bahanaga Bazar Station in Balasore district last evening.

More than 900 passengers were injured in the tragic train accident. The rescue operation is still going on.
