PNG Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurates CNG stations in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday inaugurated two Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in Cuttack.

GAIL is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga and also the City Gas Distribution (CGD) projects in various cities including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

The Minister also flagged off a CNG awareness auto rally which saw the participation of over a hundred CNG-powered autos that covered a distance of 15 km between the two CNG stations.

In December 2017, two CNG stations at Chandrasekharpur and Patia started operations in Bhubaneswar.

Two more stations are being constructed in Khandagiri and Tamando and another two would be ready in near future.

In the coming years, over 20 CNG stations will be commissioned in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to supply CNG to vehicles, said the Minister.

Presently, natural gas is being supplied in special containers called “cascades” which are being transported by road from Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh.

Also, provision is being made for L-CNG (Liquefied CNG), wherein natural gas will be transported in liquid form in cryogenic tankers from Dahej in Gujarat to Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. (IANS)
