Bhubaneswar, Sep 28:

Biju Janata Dal MLAs today created ruckus in Odisha Assembly forcing it to adjournment until 3 PM opposing the NABARD move wherein the bank has agreed to fund Rs 28,796 crore needed to complete the Polavaram project.

Later in the day, party spokesperson Surya Narayan Patro and General Secretary Debi Prasad Mishra held a press conference and blamed the Union Government and Andhra Pradesh Government behind the development.

“In the first phase, NABARD will fund Rs 800 crore for the project by October 15. It has agreed to fund Rs 28,796 crore needed to complete the project. This is gross injustice towards Odisha. We raised our voice in the Assembly against it,” said Mishra, who also is the Industries Minister in Odisha Government.

“This project is affecting Odisha. We are bound to protest in any form we can to make deaf governments hear. This is why we will continue with the symbolic protests in seven south Odisha districts as planned earlier,” he added.

Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra, on the other hand, criticized the ruling party and called it a tactic to force the House into adjournment.

“Polavaram issue is nothing new. What are they doing in the Supreme Court since past nine years? Why have they failed to get a stay order? This is a simple tactic by the ruling party to force the House into adjournment and avoid a debate in important issues,” said Mishra.

BJP, on the other hand, demanded a white paper on the issue.

“We demand a white paper to be tabled in the House so that it can present the government views on disputes including Polavaram, Mahanadi and other irrigation projects,” said Leader of BJP Legislature Party KV Singh Deo.
