Polavaram project: Centre asked to file affidavit for public hearing in Odisha, CG

New Delhi: Supreme Court today asked the Centre to submit an affidavit clearly mentioning the terms and conditions to conduct the public hearing in Odisha and Chhattisgarh on Polavaram project.

The apex court directed the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to file an affidavit by Saturday. The next hearing on the matter will take place on December 3.

The hearing came after Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Nov 21 requesting him to halt the construction of Polavaram project over the Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh till the matter gets resolved in the court.

Earlier, Odisha government approached the Supreme Court expressing its concern over the possible loss for the State due to the project for which several areas and human habitations in Malkangiri district will be submerged in water.
