Police arrests 4 persons including woman’s lover in Reamal murder case

On March 1, a shepherd grazong goats spotted stray dogs eating up parts of the corpse and informed other villagers and the sarpanch.

Deogarh: Days after body of a woman was found half-buried near a playground in Reamal area of Odisha’s Deogarh district, police claimed to have cracked the case by arresting four persons in this connection.

The accused were identified as the woman’s lover Pramod Pradhan (24) and Keshav Pradhan (50) of Balasingha village in Sambapur district along with relative Gurucharan Pradhan (55) and son Pradip Pradhan (30) of Madhyapur village within Reamal police limits of Deogarh district.

The woman, identified as Mruta Mina of Garakhol village within Kisinda police limits of Sambalpur, was reportedly having an extra-marital affair with prime accused Pramod and was killed by him on the suspicion of infidelty.

Addressing mediapersons, police said Mina had married one Dasarathi Kisan of Balam village two years back. the couple had a child. But Mina was having an extra-marital affair with Pramod and left her husband and kid to stay with him. But even after staying with Pramod, a truck driver who left his job here and was working outside, Mina was allegedly talking to other men over phone calls leading to suspicion by her partner.

She reportedly did not change even after Pramod repeatedly asked her to abstain from such behaviour. To keep a check on her, Pramod then took her to his relative Gurucharan’s place in Reamal. When he came back from work on February 22, he found her again engaging with other men over phone calls. The  next day, the couple had an argument over the issue. After the duo went to sleep, Pramod took a shawl and suffocated Mina to death in a fit of anger. Then along with Gurucharan and Pradip, went and dug up a spot near the playground and buried her.

Police on getting information, reached the spot but could not exhume the body as it was dark. The following day, the body was identified and the girl’s family alleged murder acting on which a case was registered and investigation initiated, ASP Ram Prasad Sahu informed.
