Police bust dacoity gang in Odisha’s Rourkela; 6 persons held, pistols and bullets seized

Rourkela: In a major crackdown, Rourkela police busted a dacoity gang from Udit Nagar locality of the city in Sundargarh district, last night. Police have arrested six persons in this connection, ASP (under training) Sonali Singh Parmar informed today.

The dacoits are Rahul Gope (19), son of Uday Gope from Khatal slum of Malgodown, Rohit Nayak (24), son of Babula Nayak from Ambedkar Nagar, Sonu Sahu (37), son of Dayal Sahu from Shitalpada, all under Udit Nagar police limits, Raja Yadav (24), son of Bachulal Yadav and Suraj Mahato (26), son of late Harindar Mahato, both from Gopabandhupali of Ward No-3 and Md. Irshad (26), son of Md. Mehnaj from Mahatab Road, all under Plantsite police limits in Rourkela city.

Udit Nagar PS case (No-57, dated 17.01.2023, U/s 399/402 of the IPC r/w Section 25 of the Arms Act) has been registered and a detailed probe initiated, which is underway.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Sukal Themaria was tipped off that about 10 persons with firearms had congregated at the DAV field near a pond and were preparing to commit dacoity in Basanti Colony, last night.

Swinging into action, the SI and a few other staff of Udit Nagar PS raided the place leading to arrests and seizure of firearms and ammunition. However, four persons managed to flee from the spot.

During a preliminary probe, the six persons confessed that they were planning to commit dacoity in Jewellery Shops in Udit Nagar locality. The accused persons are involved in a series of crimes such as dacoity and theft etc. The detection is part of a special drive.

Police have seized three pistols, a toy pistol, a mobile phone, six live bullets and a Bhujali, including three iron rods and hexa blades, a senior cop of Udit Nagar PS said mediapersons.
