Police bust job fraud racket for duping around Rs 50 lakh in Odisha’s Cuttack, five held

Cuttack: In a major crackdown, Commissionerate Police-Cuttack busted a racket allegedly involved in job fraud and for duping around Rs 50 lakh on the pretext of providing jobs to several unemployed youths in the district, today. Police have arrested five persons in this connection.

A senior official said that Dargah Bazaar police seized around 980 grams of gold ornaments, a car, four motorcycles, fake job offer letters and seven mobile phones from the possession of the fraudsters.

It is said that the fraudsters earlier purchased gold ornaments with the money that they duped.

“Jobseekers from Cuttack district and outside have been cheated by the racket. We suspect that many more persons are involved in the crime and the total number of arrests may likely go up in the days ahead. Mastermind of the racket belongs to Badamba locality in the district. Value of the seized gold ornaments in the open market would be approximately Rs 50 lakh,” Cuttack Additional DCP Anil Kumar Mishra said while briefing mediapersons here.

A female member of the job fraud racket was arrested yesterday and forwarded to court. With this, the total number has reached six. The five male members were forwarded to court later in the day.
