Anandpur: A youth was tied to an electricity utility pole yesterday morning and thrashed by a ‘kangaroo court’ at Birbal village under Anandpur police limits in Keonjhar district, for reasons not known yet. Later, the police forwarded the victim to a local court, his parents alleged today.
The youth was identified as Sritam Jena, the son of Bhanumati from Bankhidi village.
According to a source, some incensed locals had tied the youth on the roadside over an issue. After coming to learn about it, the elderly woman reached the spot to request the mob for her son’s release and was beaten. They even hurled abusive words at the woman.
On being informed, Anandpur police reached the spot and rescued the youth.
However, Sritam was forwarded to court, an FIR lodged by Bhanumati mentioned. Even to the extent, no case was registered based on her FIR, the elderly woman expressed.
On the other hand, police avoided giving any reaction in front of the camera.
When contacted over his mobile phone, Anandpur SDPO Prashant Kumar Behera said, “Sritam has been forwarded to court based on an allegation made by a woman. We have also registered a counter case based on the FIR lodged by the youth’s mother.”
