Vigilance department sleuths Thursday trapped a police inspector while he was accepting illegal gratification of Rs 30,000 from a person in Dhenkanal district for striking off his name from a charge sheet accusing him of being involved in a case of kidnapping, said sources.

The Vigilance has also seized Rs 30 lakh in cash and a Maruti Dezire car from the residence of IIC, Khuntuni police station Nirod Mohanty at Sector 9 in CDA in Cuttack during simultaneous raids on both his ancestral house in Balikuda and his house at CDA after he was caught red handed.

Confirming seizure of Rs 30 lakh in cash and a Maruti Dezire car from Mohanty’s residence in CDA Cuttack, Vigilance SP, Cuttack said as per preliminary estimates, Mohanty’s properties had been valued at more than one crore in excess of his known sources of income.
