Police, Maoists exchange fire in Odisha’s Kandhamal

Maoists and security forces exchanged fire during combing operations in Mahiraju forested area under Gochapada police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district today, police said.

Following reports of some Maoists hailing from neighbouring Chhattisgarh persuading locals to join their organization today morning, combing operations were launched by the District Voluntary Force (DVF). Both sides exchanged fire during the operation, informed Kanwar Vishal Singh, SP Kandhamal briefing the media.

“The exchange of fire took place at around 5 AM today. Operations are still on. It will not be appropriate to reveal more on it at this moment. We have further intensified combing operations in the area. Kandhamal police is involved in the combing operation. The exchange of fire took place in the area under Gochapada police limits. Based on intelligence inputs, we will intensify our operations in that area,” said Singh.
