Police warn Odisha youths against taking up Kiki Challenge

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police today warned people not to take up the “Kiki Challenge” which is going viral on social media that involves jumping out of a moving car and dancing alongside it.

The police have appealed to the youth of the city not to perform or encourage such dangerous dance or acts. The city police also warned of registration of cases against the violators.

In a tweet today, the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police termed the ‘kikichallenge’ a “bizarre” act and urged youths not to attempt it anywhere.

Speaking to Odisha Sun Times about the dangerous online craze, Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Kumar Sahoo said only people with mental disorders can attempt such things as it involves  dancing alongside a moving vehicle and hopping back into it.

The acceptance of Kiki Challenge may land them in a hospital bed or behind bars.

He requested the youth of the city to desist from indulging in such acts on the roads and advised them to ‘be smart and be safe’ on the roads.

The police will lodge complaint and book the people whoever takes the Kiki challenge and create nuisance on roads.

When asked whether any complaints lodged so far in the city, the DCP said: “No and we wish no one does such thing.”

People who try to do such Kiki Challenges will be penalised in accordance with Section 184, 188 of the Motor Vehicles Act and Indian Penal Code Sections 268, 337, 338 and 304 (A), depending upon the case details, he added.

Earlier, police forces in Deli, Chandigarh, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Jaipur have also issued advisories against taking up the Kiki challenge.

The Delhi Police also urged people not to take up the challenge:

People, however, are continuing to try the dance challenge inspite of the warnings.

Several celebrities have also posted their videos doing the challenge. Actor Adah Sharma, Nora Fatehi and Varun Sharma had posted their Kiki challenge videos on their Twitter accounts.

What is Kiki challenge?

The Kiki Challenge, also known as the ‘In My Feelings Challenge’, fundamentally involves an individual jumping out of a slow-moving car and shimmying to the tune of ‘In My Feelings’, the latest song by Canadian rapper Drake. While the individual improvises the dance moves, the signature heart move is consistent. The driver of the vehicle is filming this.

Why is it called the ‘Kiki’ Challenge?

Drake’s ‘In My Feelings’ song is from his fifth studio album called ‘Scorpion’. The song’s lyrics reportedly have references to several of Drake’s former lovers – alleged or otherwise – including Jennifer Lopez and Caresha Brownlee. ‘Kiki’ is a reference to Drake’s childhood sweetheart Keshia Chante, who is popularly known as KeKe.

How it went viral?

The Kiki Challenge went viral on June 30 when internet comedian Shiggy posted a video to Instagram of himself dancing to the song on a road. Since his video went viral, thousands of people have taken up the challenge. Later American footballer Odell Beckham Jr also recorded himself dancing outside his car.  Hollywood film star Will Smith have uploaded the video of Kiki Challenge on top of a bridge in Budapest.
