Political contention: District Administration disallows Ravan Podi in Odisha’s Jharsuguda town
Jharsuguda: Ravan Podi is being organised every year over a period of nearly the last four decades. However, it will not be witnessed this year in Jharsuguda town as this district Administration today disallowed organisation of the event and did not accord permission to hold the same on Manmohan ME school playground here.
According to a source, this was the fallout of ongoing political contention between two rival factions of both Jharsuguda MLA Dipali Das and Brajarajnagar MLA Alaka Mohanty’s supporters. After controversy over organisation of the event erupted, Jharsuguda district Administration apprehended that the law and order situation might be disturbed. Hence, the Administration took this step as a preventive measure.
Worth mentioning, Ravan Podi is usually organised at two different places in the town.
A poster war was brewing pertaining to the event which was supposed to be organised at the school playground. The posters put up by supporters of the two legislators contained their names and photos.
The MLAs were supposed to inaugurate the event at two different times.
