Political violence: Houses of former Odisha MLA, supporters set afire

Tension erupted in Podana village under Niali police limits in Cuttack district of Odisha this afternoon after activists of a political party allegedly set the houses of opponents on fire.

Two rival groups indulged in stone-pelting further deteriorating the situation in the area.  The incident took place at around 1 pm.

According to reports, some Biju Janata Dal (BJD) workers allegedly barged into house of former MLA and senior congress leader Rabi Mallick and his supporters – Kabi Mallick, Goutam Mallick and started ransacking.

Later, they set the houses on fire. The violence is suspected to be a fallout of the killing of a villager on February 14.

Tension still prevailed in the area post the political violence and police are trying to bring the situation under control. Policemen are camping in the trouble-torn village and monitoring the situation.
