Bhubaneswar: Various enforcement agencies have seized cash, liquor, drugs and other items worth Rs 254.84 crore in Odisha in the run-up to the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.

The seizures have been made in between March 1 and May 18 this year, said the data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) yesterday.

The enforcement agencies have seized Rs 17.18 crore in cash in the state during the above said period. They have also seized 31,30,148.43 litres of liquor worth Rs 35.84 crore in  Odisha ahead of the twin polls.

As per the ECI data, the enforcement agencies have seized drugs worth Rs 74.46 crore and precious metals worth Rs 14.35 crore in the state in the run-up to the 2024 elections.

Besides, freebies and other items worth Rs 113 crore have been seized in Odisha during the period.

The election-time seizures for the entire country stood at Rs 8,889.74 crore by May 18 and the figure is likely to cross Rs 9,000 crore in the next few days, said the ECI.

The poll-time seizures in Gujarat stood at Rs 1,461.73 crore while the figure is Rs 1,133.82 crore in Rajasthan, Rs 734.54 crore in Punjab, Rs 685.81 crore in Maharashtra, Rs 653.31 crore in Delhi, Rs 554.41 crore in Karnataka, Rs 543.72 crore in Tamil Nadu, Rs 426.24 crore in Uttar Pradesh, Rs 371.69 crore in West Bengal, Rs 333.55 crore in Telangana and Rs 301.75 crore in Andhra Pradesh.
