Jajpur: An on-duty election official died of suspected heart attack during the ongoing last phase voting in Jajpur district of Odisha today. The deceased was identified as Manoranjan Sahu, an assistant teacher deployed as booth-level officer in Binjharpur Assembly Constituency of the district. He was on duty at booth number 157  in Fatepur.

As per reports, Sahu was on duty when he complained of uneasiness in the chest. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Though the exact cause of death is yet to be established, it is suspected he could have suffered a heart attack due to excess heat. Official sources said the postmortem report will ascertain the reason behind his sudden death.

Further probe is on. Meanwhile, election authorities have issued directions to polling officials and voters to keep themselves sufficiently hydrated as heatwave-related deaths are on the rise.
