Ponzi scam: CBI files 2 supplementary chargesheets in separate cases

Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed two supplementary chargesheets in separate cases related to chit fund scam in Special CJM Court (CBI cases) here.

In the first case, a supplementary chargesheet has been filed against 25 accused, including Promoter and Director of Delhi-based private company and others including officials of sister companies on the allegations of misappropriation of the amount collected from the public.

The CBI had registered a case on June 5, 2014 under Sections 120 B and 420 of IPC and Sections 4, 5 and 6 of Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978 on the order of Supreme Court on s May 9 , 2014. A case was earlier registered at Kaniha Police Station in Angul district  against a private group of companies based in Delhi. It was alleged that officials of Group of Companies allured depositors with false promise of paying high rate of interest against their deposits but had cheated the public of Rs 862 crore by running money circulation scheme without authorization.  A chargesheet was earlier filed on June 11, 2019 before the Special CJM, Bhubaneswar and further investigation was continuing.

In the second case, a supplementary chargesheet has been filed against a private company based at Paschim Vihar, New Delhi and two others including its Director. CBI had registered the case on June 5, 2014 under Sections 420 and 406 of IPC and Section 66 of IT Act on the order of Supreme Court on May 9 and taken over the investigation of the case, that was earlier registered at EOW Bhubaneswar.

It was alleged that the private money circulation networking company having its website “abcindya.com”  and  information website “[email protected]” allured depositors by offering lucrative returns and collected huge money from the public without having authorization from the competent authorities, and cheated them. It was alleged that the accused between 2006 and 2010, in conspiracy with each other, had unauthorisedly collected deposits from investors to the tune of Rs. 63.72 crore from different places in India.

It was also alleged that the deposits were collected on the pretext of providing online games with false promises of high returns and without having any authority from Reserve Bank of India or SEBI.  Out of this, an amount of Rs 13.49 crore was collected from investors of Odisha. Earlier, a chargesheet was filed on April 30,2019 and further investigation was continuing.
